What are the silver cylinders near the smokestack on the Island Princess cruise ship?

I saw a Princess Cruise ship (I believe it was the Island Princess). I noticed that on each side of the smokestack, there were silver cylinders mounted horizontally that looked something like a jet engine. Does anyone have any idea what those are?
